History & Background
White Branch Falls is a delicate 50-foot veil waterfall on White Branch Creek near McKenzie Bridge in the Willamette National Forest, spreading in a wide, misty curtain over a basalt cliff above the McKenzie River corridor. The ‘veil’ type reflects the falls’ character — water spreading thin and wide across the cliff face rather than plunging in a concentrated stream. The McKenzie River corridor near McKenzie Bridge is a premier recreation destination, anchored by the McKenzie River National Recreation Trail, Proxy Falls, Tamolitch/Blue Pool, and the Sahalie and Koosah Falls upstream. White Branch Falls is a quieter, more intimate discovery amid these famous neighbors.
Geology
White Branch Falls spreads 50 feet as a veil over a High Cascades volcanic basalt cliff at approximately 1,700 feet elevation near McKenzie Bridge. White Branch Creek originates from the volcanic highlands above the McKenzie valley and fans across the basalt cliff face in the thin, misty veil form characteristic of moderate-flow falls over wide, smooth volcanic surfaces. The surrounding old-growth forest of Douglas fir and western hemlock reflects the exceptional conservation value of the McKenzie River corridor.
