History & Background
Drift Creek Falls is one of the most popular waterfalls in the Oregon Coast Range, best known for the dramatic suspension bridge that spans the canyon near the falls. The area has long been managed as part of the Siuslaw National Forest, and the modern suspension bridge was constructed to provide safe access and protect the surrounding environment. The combination of forest scenery, canyon views, and waterfall makes this hike a favorite for both locals and visitors.
Geology
Drift Creek Falls drops into a narrow canyon carved through sedimentary and volcanic rock typical of the Oregon Coast Range. Over time, Drift Creek eroded the canyon walls, creating a steep, forested ravine. The waterfall’s plunge and the confined canyon amplify the sound and visual impact, especially during periods of high flow.
