History & Background
Munson Creek Falls is the tallest waterfall on the Oregon Coast and a popular destination within Munson Creek Falls State Natural Site. The waterfall is named after early settlers in the area, and the surrounding forest has been preserved to protect the scenic canyon and old-growth landscape. Its short, well-maintained trail makes it accessible while still feeling secluded.
Geology
Munson Creek Falls drops over volcanic basalt formed by ancient lava flows in the Coast Range. Over time, Munson Creek carved a steep, narrow canyon, creating the dramatic vertical plunge seen today. The surrounding area is characterized by dense coastal forest, moss-covered rock walls, and a moist microclimate typical of the Oregon Coast Range.
